ABOUT US

Since the early 1920s, BDO has grown steadily to become the fifth largest single national accounting and advisory partnership in Canada. When Colonel James M. Dunwoody opened his first office in Winnipeg 90 years ago, he may not have expected the success it would achieve. The firm first became national in 1965 when it opened offices in Northern Ontario.
By the 1990s, it united with a dynamic and successful Quebec practice named Ward Mallette to create one of the country’s leading accounting services firms. The merged firms became part of BDO International Limited, a global network of national accounting firms.
Today, our BDO Canada team has over 2,700 partners and professionals working in 95 offices nationwide. We offer assurance, accounting, taxation, financial advisory and corporate recovery services to clients in a broad range of industries. Whether you are looking to minimize your taxes, prepare financial statements, or overcome financial hurdles, you can rely on BDO to help you achieve your business goals.

Training of new hires:
At BDO, we provide basic training for our new hires, advanced training in their second year at the firm, and management training for those on their way to overseeing BDO staff. We also offer business development and marketing training for our senior managers and newly appointed partners. We have an excellent National UFE Preparation Program, and a robust Coaching Program. If you need a resource that is even more accessible, BDO has an extensive in-house, online training and development portal called "BDO University." At BDO U, our employees can access several online courses to accelerate their technical and soft skills whenever they have a chance.
Opportunities for advancement:
Opportunities for advancement largely depend on the performance and skill-set of each individual at our firm. Employees can always request transfer to different practice areas or to another office across Canada or even abroad with a secondment to one of our fellow BDO Member Firms around the world.
Types of roles available for students and new graduates:
We recruit students for co-op and internship positions, as well as those in the last year of their program to serve full-time junior positions upon their graduation.
Work-life balance:
BDO offers flexible start and finish work hours, 37.5-hour work weeks with full pay, and the options for shortened work weeks, compressed work weeks, telecommuting, working from home, and reduced summer hours. We also offer sabbaticals and other personal leaves.
Office culture:
The culture of BDO provides the best of both worlds. We have the resources and support of a large international network, combined with customized services for our clients. The people at our firm work hard and play hard, which includes active participation in our communities and local charities. In fact, BDO offers all employees one day per year to spend on a charitable initiative.
