Lauren – It’s been amazing being involved in the creative design of TalentEgg. With such a truly brilliant concept all I did was add a lick paint so it is all really down to you and your incredible determination. Here’s to the future.

I’m so happy to have been trucking along with TalentEgg for this long. I still remember watching you on BT that fateful morning in April, almost one year ago now, and happily signing up for TalentEgg in the hope of landing a job that summer. I just had no idea it would be with TalentEgg!

I can’t wait to see how much more the company will achieve in the coming years and I’m so excited to be a part of it. :)

P.S. I just had a fairly hilarious moment in my head where you were Captain Picard and I was Commander Riker from “Star Trek: The Next Generation” because of the whole #1 thing. If you’ve never watched it, please just let enjoy it in my little nerdy corner.

Congratulations on such an event filled year. I look forward to seeing even more success over the next year.

Remember the Isle of Man, figuring out the concept, the name, the colour theme (the latter of which has caused some upset….remembering the guy who felt the need to tell you the site looked like a porn site and it made his eyes bleed….hahaha, too funny), and now look where you are. There have been 1 or 2 downs, which at the end of the day have amounted to ups because they’ve been necessary lessons. But mostly the past year has been a whirl wind of progress and modest successes.

You’ve surrounded yourself with amazingly talented people & driven people (Marc, Casandra, Daniel, Carm, your ma & pa… to name but a few), who know concept is brilliant and work symbiotically to produce a great product. You’re determined and have possibly the most drive I’ve ever encountered in anyone.

Keep innovating and stay focused :)

Lauren – it’s been a pleasure watching TalentEgg grow over the last year. I remember our early conversations about the site and it is truly amazing to see how it has grown. You’re site metrics are impressive but what is even better is that you’ve helped real people get great jobs (and help companies think differently about their recruitment strategies).

It seems that almost every day there is a new improvement to the TalentEgg offering – from the Incubator to the Redesign, you’ve been moving the site forward and the increase in your March traffic proves that things are working!

I’m excited to see TalentEgg on it’s 2 year anniversary and can’t wait to chat about what the future holds for the site. Congrats again and great work. You’re an inspiring entrepreneur and I feel lucky to have lived with you for all those years (even though…due to my messy habits…it’s OK if you don’t feel the same way!)

    Hello TalentEgg,

I came across this article while browsing through and one item of note struck me as pretty rude.

The comment is question is this one : ‘i am an mba who needs a job – (guess that whole grad school thing didn’t pan out too well, did it?)’

I found the comment in brackets downright obnoxious and as if you were taking shots at people who do their MBA. As a recent MBA graduate who is finding it extremely difficult to find employment, I do not appreciate these sorts of snide remarks on my degree and business profession. In my experience, most people who do a MBA are doing it because they want to get ahead in their roles or want to gain experience when coming from a general Arts or Science background.

I am sick and tired of people bashing the MBA as creating monsters, and people like you making these sort of remarks when you do not know what the MBA is or how it can help people with general undergraduate degrees. It is true that recently more and more people picked grad school to escape from the repercussions of the recession, but the admissions is pretty stringent to throw out any people who are doing it just to escape.

    @Zeeshan J.

Hi Zeeshan, thanks for your comment.

I’m sorry you were offended, but this blog post is not a personal attack against MBA students and grads. The overall tone of this post is jokey and lighthearted, and is obviously not an in-depth look at the pros and cons of MBAs.

I was not bashing MBAs or saying MBA grads are monsters. In fact, I do know what an MBA is and it is my personal opinion that, for most people, it’s not the best replacement for plain and simple work experience — especially at such a high cost.

I’m entitled to my opinion and we, here at TalentEgg, do not see value in censoring our opinions in case they might rub someone the wrong way. We’re pretty transparent that way.

I have a journalism degree and people have told me, and I’ve read online, that it was a waste of time and money. That’s their opinion and they’re entitled to it as well.

    Thanks for sharing yours.

Hello Cassandra, thank you for your succinct reply. While your assertion may be true for people who do their MBAs right out of doing their undergrad, I think it is a wonderful degree to have once you get at least 2-3 years of solid work experience. The main point of my argument was this – you were devaluing the MBA and putting it next to a person who has a general Arts degree which in today’s world is completely useless. Every Tom, Dick, and Harry have university degrees nowadays because of the easy accessibility of university education. MBA is one of many unique degrees where someone who has a vested interest in entrepreneurship and business to advance faster in the organization than others. But, it doesn’t replace having solid work experience, but complements it.

I am glad that you and TalentEgg have not censored my comments just because I disagreed with your assertion. I just wanted to set the record straight. Lastly, the people who told you a journalism degree is waste of time and money, have their own shortcomings or are envious of your accomplishments.

Hey team great work and congratulations. I’m curious as one day hope to be an entrepreneur myself. When you noted that milkrounds in UK was an inspiration did you partner with them or anything to help get things started or at least learn from their experiences – OR – did you just go and do it your way using them purely as a spark but not engaging them? Curious as I’m fascinated by the entrepreneur spirit and great things the egg team has achieved already. – thx G

An alternative to traditional career fairs is the recent development of Virtual Career Fairs – where career seekers and employers can connect through an online portal. MiHR, the national sector council for the Canadian Mining Industry is launching the first Virtual Career Fair geared at connecting recent graduates and students with the Canadian mining industry in early 2010. Check out the link for information on how to register.

What a great website you guys have! With a degree in hand many graduates don’t know what to do or where to look for a job. It is great to know there are resources such as this one available!
